Stage Two: Defining Appropriate Evidence

Questions to ask ourselves:
  • What evidence can show that students have achieved the desired results?
  • What assessment tasks and other evidence will anchor our curricular units and thus guide our instruction?
  • What should we look for, to determine the extent of student understanding?
  • In particular, what is appropriate evidence of the desired understanding?

A student who really understands:

1. Can explain
2. Can interpret
3. Can apply
4. Sees in perspective
5. Demonstrates empathy
6. Reveals self-knowledge
